Listening can be hard, especially when you think you have a lot to say… or if you think the person you are talking to is nuts. However, the person listening, is really the person in control of the conversation. Listeners make the best sales people, best husbands or wives, parents, mentors and business people. Listening helped me save my company millions (yes millions) of dollars this week. Listening creates confidence and strong personal bonds. Listening, no matter how hard it can be when someone is babbling aimlessly in front of you, can make you rich.
My comments are short this week. I have a couple great quotes below followed by one of the best short videos I have ever seen.
“Any problem, big or small, within a family, always seems to start with bad communication. Someone isn’t listening.” Emma Thompson
“Seek first to understand, then to be understood.” Stephen Covey
“I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen.” Ernest Hemingway
“Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you’d have preferred to talk.” Doug Larson
“I’ve often stood silent at a party for hours listening to my movie idols turn into dull and little people.” Marilyn Monroe
“Of all human activities, man’s listening to God is the supreme act of his reasoning and will.” Pope Paul VI
“If you make listening and observation your occupation you will gain much more than you can by talk.” Robert Baden-Powell
And now the pièce de résistance, the greatest “listening” (or lack thereof) example of all time, the video that truly explains how much men do not speak the same language as women. I hope you like it and learn from it.
Good luck out there and give listening a chance.
Dedicated to your success,
