My baby turned two yesterday. As the fifth of five, he gets more than his fair share of love from his four adoring siblings and parents. As we celebrated his big day with inexpensive gifts and a small chocolate cake, I watched his face explode with happiness with each simple gift. Other than blowing out the two candles before the end of the song, the biggest hit was an inexpensive stuffed puppy that he carried around the rest of the night with a big smile while tightly holding it next to his plump cheeks. Dylan had no idea why he was getting the extra gifts, it was just another day to him. However, I loved watching the chubby little fellow loving life and cherishing each bit of love, each extra kiss and added attention.
Dr. Wayne Dyer said, “When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It’s to enjoy each step along the way.” Sometimes the cares of the world seem to get in the way of enjoying the journey. Work loses its purpose. Days last forever, but months and years are gone in an instant. We lose the joy of each step along the way.
Dr. Dyer also said, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Dylan’s joy was great last night. His happiness came from the joy of breathing and being loved. He simply looked at “things” with unfiltered joy and as a result, he filled everyone around him with happiness. It is amazing what I learned from my little buddy.
